WhatsApp Pay to start payments service in India to counter Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm

WhatsApp is going to start payments service in India later this year. So, get ready to do payments using WhatsApp Pay. WhatsApp Global Head Will Cathcart confirms to roll out its payment services soon in India later this year to counter Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm.
In the year 2018, WhatsApp launched a test run of its payments service with around a million users in India which got failed to meet the local digital payments framework guidelines. But now the WhatsApp payments service is in the final stages.
Last month, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that the company is actively working on to launch WhatsApp Pay in India. “We have a test that is running in India for WhatsApp now, we’re hoping to launch in several other countries at some point, but I don’t want to put a timeframe on that here, but it’s something that we’re actively working on,” he had said.
Addressing an event in New Delhi on Thursday, WhatsApp Global Head Will Cathcart announced, “To boost digital inclusion in India, we can launch the (Pay) service across the country later this year after meeting regulations.”
WhatsApp currently has more than 300 million users in India. Once it starts UPI based payment service, it gives a huge competition to its competitors GooglePay, PhonePe, Paytm.
